Welcome Back Gross Men's Club members and Welcome to New Members!

We will be holding an in-person membership meeting on Saturday, March 28 from 10 am to 12/Noon at the clubhouse to talk about all the details of the season, help you register online if needed, and answer any questions.

When registering, you will be asked to choose your membership category--you pay based on your age and whether you are a new member or returning member.

  • Dues range from $65 to $125 for returning members and $50 to $110 plus card fees.

  • New members get a $15 discount off the annual dues.

  • Each player's registering will include $40 for the club to use the Golf Genius Premium Software that provides live scoring and makes the life of your Event Chair and Treasurer much easier.

  • We will play 13 events again this year--a mix of individual, two-man and four-man formats. Cost per event ranges from $20-$30 most weeks with optional skins games and you pay as you register.

  • All winnings are paid out in cash at the end of the season.

  • We will again offer both a singles and doubles match play tournaments (with handicaps) that run the course of the season.  I have been pondering if there was enough interest of the low handicappers for a singles tournament without handicaps.  More on that later.  Registration for each of those tournaments will be conducted separately--look for an email from me to register. The cost to enter these events are $25/player. Depending on the level of interest, we may need to cap registration--but more on that when we register.

  • Registration will also ask you about participation in the various GMC Club teams that play against other clubs. You will be contacted by the team captain after registration for those who indicate an interest.

We have an increased interest in joining this year from our friends at the U of MN who's golf course is being sold by the university.

  • As a result, I have been talking to the management at the Gross Golf Course to secure more tee times to try to accommodate everyone who wants to play (remember you can play in as many or as few events as your schedule allows).

  • As of this moment, I have secured two super early tee times at 6:32 and 6:40 am for our guys who need to play early for family demands, along with a block of times from 7:36 am to 10 am.  So enough for 84 player each event.

  • Depending on registration demand, we may be able to get more times but I just ask for your patience as we wait to see how many members we have by the start of he season.

  • As always when you register for an event, I will ask if you have a specific time preference and will try to accommodate everyone as much as possible.

  • The same is true for playing partners--you'll get a chance to play with your guys if at all possible. I have found communicating with said pals helps make that much easier!

  • Almost all the events are based on a net basis, so your diligence in posting your non-event scores will ensure handicaps with integrity.  I will post all event results to GHIN.  If you are new to having a handicap, let me know and I or our handicap chair can help you get acclimated.

  • We will also be mindful of our pace of play!  We had some struggles with that among our later groups last year -- which will be even more important with a larger group.  We will get more flexibility from the clubhouse with tee times as long as we don't hold up the public playing after us.

We have 13 weekend events on the schedule attached, but please note we will need to move the August 8 event -- probably to August 1st, but I don't have that confirmed as of yet.

  • We play rain or shine unless the course is too saturated to play or the weather becomes a safety issue.

  • If an event gets cancelled we sometimes can shift it back in the schedule if there's an open weekend, as we had to do last year.

  • Its also important to include your current mobile phone when registering, as I use that to text you your tee time/playing partners, any last minute alerts, conditions to be aware of, etc.

If you have any questions about registration or payments, please feel free to contact myself or Bill Zerull, the new Board Treasurer.  Bill can be reach by email at bzerull@protonmail.com or by phone at 612-290-8140.  Bill is retired now but keep in mind that I am still in the working world. :)

We look forward to seeing all of you this season! Appreciate you!

Gross Men’s Club

 New Member Info

What is the purpose of the Gross Men’s Club?

The purpose of the Gross Men’s club is to organize an affordable public golf membership with the express purpose of providing a forum of competitive golf and fellowship for the exclusive benefit of its members.

Where do the members play?

We play at the Francis A. Gross Golf Course at 2201 St. Anthony Boulevard within minutes of downtown St Paul and Minneapolis. Gross is one of five public golf courses in the Minneapolis Park Board system and is considered one of the finest.

What is the cost to play in each monthly event?

Since we are a public golf course, we always pay our own green and cart fees and also pay the individual event fee of $20 - $35, depending on the event. These fees are collected by the Men’s club and then paid out to the various flight winners of the event in cash.  Lunch is included after your round in some events.  Events are scheduled on Saturday or Sunday Morning with preferred early morning tee times for our members. This is part of your membership benefit.
